Wide-plank engineered hardwood installed through a Meridian-Kessler home mid-remodel, walls still openEngineered hardwood · Meridian-Kessler · Oct 2026

Real wood, Meridian-Kessler

A whole-house remodel in Meridian-Kessler, Indianapolis, October 2026. The walls are still open in the photo. The floor is already done.

Meridian-Kessler · Engineered hardwood · Oct 2026

The floor goes in first. Everything else lands on top of it.

Wide-plank engineered hardwood, stapled down over the wood subfloor with glue assist so it stays quiet underfoot. The base and casing come after, sitting on the finished floor the way trim should, and the painter works last.

How it goes in

  1. Measure, and test the slab if there is one. Moisture is read before anything is ordered. A high reading is a conversation, not a surprise.
  2. The wood acclimates in your house. Boxes sit in the room for the days the manufacturer calls for, so the plank is at the house's humidity before the first row goes down.
  3. The right method for what is under it. Nailed or stapled over a wood subfloor. Glued over a slab. Floated only when the plank is a click system. Expansion gaps to spec, jambs undercut so the floor slides under them clean.
  4. Owner on site, start to finish. Subfloor swept and scraped, vents vacuumed when it is done, three text updates a day with photos, and a 9-day check-in after.

Straight talk before you buy

I install engineered hardwood. I do not sand, refinish, or install solid hardwood. If that is the job, I tell you on the first call so you do not lose a day finding out.
"From" means from. Engineered covers a wide range of planks. $13.25 is the starting point on the stocked line; the plank you pick sets the exact number, and you see it before anything is ordered.
Stairs are treads. Hardwood stairs are priced on the tread you choose and quoted per job, after the matching tread or nose is confirmed to exist for your plank.

Common questions

What is engineered hardwood, and how is it different from solid?
A real hardwood layer on top, bonded to a stable core underneath. The top is wood, so it looks, feels and wears like wood. The core is built in layers that pull against each other, so the plank moves less than a solid board when Indiana goes from a wet July to a dry January. That is why it can go places solid cannot, like a slab.
Can engineered hardwood go in a basement or over a concrete slab?
Yes, as a glue-down, and only after the slab passes a moisture test. I test before anything is ordered. If the reading is high we talk about it then, not after a floor cups. The adhesive is its own line on the estimate.
Nailed, glued or floating?
It depends on what is under it. Over a wood subfloor the plank is nailed or stapled. Over a slab it is glued. Floating is only for planks built as a click system, and only when the manufacturer allows it. Acclimation time and expansion gaps follow the manufacturer's written spec, because that is what keeps the warranty in force.
Why does the price say "from"?
Engineered hardwood covers a wide range of planks. $13.25 a square foot installed is the starting point on the stocked line. Once you pick a plank, the exact number comes off the measure and it is on the estimate before anything is ordered. Same way the LVP ranges work.
What is not in the posted number?
Removing the old floor, subfloor prep or leveling, the adhesive on a slab job, and trim and transitions. Each one is its own line on the estimate, priced before I start. The posted rates for those are on the flooring cost guide.
Do you do hardwood stairs?
Yes, as treads, not wrapped steps. They are priced on the tread you choose and quoted per job after the matching tread or nose is confirmed to exist for your plank.
Do you sand or refinish existing hardwood?
No. I install engineered hardwood. If your floor needs sanding and refinishing, or you want solid hardwood installed, I will tell you so on the first call and you will not lose a day finding out.
How does it compare to LVP on price?
LVP runs from $5.00 a square foot installed on the posted tiers. Engineered hardwood starts at $13.25. The difference buys real wood on top, which is the whole point. If you want the look at the LVP number, the LVP page has the planks that get closest.
