Basement floors, done for the basement.

A basement is a concrete slab with moisture under it, a staircase coming down into it, and a floor that has to handle both. I test the slab before I commit to LVP, run a 6 mil vapor barrier under every plank, and put a moisture barrier pad under basement carpet from the Premium tier up. Text me the rooms and a photo and I ballpark it today.

Common questions

Carpet or LVP in a basement?
LVP if the basement has a bathroom, a bar, a walkout door, or any history of water. Carpet if it is a family room, a bedroom, or a playroom and you want it warm and quiet underfoot. Plenty of basements get both: LVP in the wet zones and carpet where people sit. I will tell you which yours is at the measure, and the price for each is posted right here.
Do you test the slab for moisture?
Yes, before any LVP goes down on concrete. Concrete breathes, and a slab that reads high will cup or lift a plank floor no matter who installs it. If the reading is high we talk about it before anything is ordered, not after.
Is the vapor barrier extra?
No. A 6 mil vapor barrier under LVP on a slab is part of the posted price. It is what the manufacturer warranty calls for, so it is never an add-on.
What about the stairs down to the basement?
Carpeted stairs are wrapped wall-to-wall and priced per step by carpet tier, $50 to $78 a step with a $500 minimum per staircase. LVP stairs carry a stair nose at $85 or a bent nose at $100 per step. Stairs are the last thing installed so nobody walks the new floor before it is finished.
Can you replace basement carpet with LVP?
Yes. The carpet comes up, tack strips and staples come out, and the slab gets scraped clean. That conversion prep is a posted $0.75 per square foot with a $150 minimum, quoted before I start, never mid-job.
